Waste
Although 75% of our total solid waste is recyclable, in the US as a whole we only recycle about 35%.

Locally most of our trash is sent to the Chester Resource Recovery Facility, a trash-to-power plant in Chester. Trash-to-power incinerators have historically been controversial because of the potential health risks to nearby communities from pollution In recent years, however, process improvements, including recycling of metals from the ash, and greater understanding of the pollution from alternatives to trash-to-power, such as air and water pollution from burning coal or green-house gas pollution from landfills, are raising the estimates of the benefits relative to costs of trash-to-power.
