Come meet some of the aFewSteps.org people exhibiting at the 4th Annual EnviroFair this weekend!

April 13th, 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Penn Wood High School
100 Green Avenue Landsdowne PA


This one day public event promotes environmental awareness and action in Delaware County PA. The EnviroFair offers free activities and workshops in addition the opportunity to meet green-minded vendors and contractors!

The theme this year is : Your Green Home

Activities include:

  • Shred up to 3 boxes of personal papers
  • Drop off your personal computers & peripherals and have them recycled in a certified facility
  • See a Tesla and watch a video about the electric sports car’s trip across America
  • learn about local congregations’ sustainable activities
  • Talk to the Energy Coordinating Agency and sign up for a subsidized home energy audit & low-interest loans for completing the work
  • purchase carbon credits to offset you travel to the fair or the vacation you plan to take this summer
  • Watch videos to learn about the Story of Stuff, where you beef comes from, global climate change & more
  • Children’s activities including planting seeds, coloring books & bookmarks & scavenger hunts

Are you looking to make your home more comfortable this winter without increasing your heating bills? Do you wonder whether there are simple steps you can take to save energy today? Are you hoping to reduce your family’s environmental footprint? aFewSteps.org’s Sustainability Coach program can help.

 Our volunteer coaches provide a free personalized assessment of your home’s energy use within the context of your family’s lifestyle and goals. Following a short written survey, a Sustainability Coach will meet with you to discuss your priorities, walk through your home, and provide you with a set of observations and recommendations tailored to your house and family.

aFewSteps.org is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Nether Providence, Rose Valley, Rutledge and Swarthmore. The coaches, members of our community, are architects, engineers, carpenters, and others who feel passionate about sustainability and want to help others get started on the path to less consumption. The Sustainability Coach program is not affiliated with any commercial interests.

Recently, aFewSteps.org took a giant leap toward our goals when we received IRS approval as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit.  This means that we can now accept your tax-deductible contributions in support of our work.

While we are an entirely volunteer organization, there are substantial expenses involved in what we do.  High on this list is paper and printing, for flyers, worksheets, and informational materials.  Another expense is insurance, which we need in order to host events such as this year’s Enviro Fair and our community workshops.  And our successful pilot programs will require investments in training and materials as we roll them out on a larger scale.

It may be easier than you think to reduce your heating bill this winter and keep a cozy, healthful kitchen at the same time.  Come hear energy efficiency expert Phil Coleman debunk myths about the energy we use to heat our homes AND nutrition and food systems expert Karen Shore speak about how to bring food to our table, while offering ideas on how to keep things as local and healthy as possible in the dead of winter!

Swarthmore Sustainable Table and aFewSteps.org will host an evening of idea-sharing and conversation on Thursday, December 1, 7:00 – 8:30 at Hobbs Coffee in Swarthmore.  Join us and take home a few easy suggestions for saving money and eating healthy this winter.
