An energy assessment is the best way to establish how efficiently your home CURRENTLY performs. In addition, the report should make suggestions to make your home more energy efficient. These suggesions for your home may be as simple as “change out your inefficient incandescent light bulbs, seal up air leaks” to insulating and upgrading appliances.
Fully-certified home energy assessments are available from the nonprofit Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC), which also provides jobs for area residents in improving our regional energy efficiency. Further information is available at http://www.caadc.org/index.php?/services/energy/v1/weatherization_home_improvement/. Many weatherization contractors offer them as well and will often apply the cost against work performed. Always look for BPI and RESNET certification.
