
The amount of resources to make one quarter-pound burger is staggering. According to the Journal of Animal Science it takes 6 pounds of feed, fifty gallons of water for the animal to drink and for watering the feed crops, nearly 75 square feet of land for grain feed and foraging and 1000 BTUs of fossil fuel energy, enough to power a microwave for 18 minutes. And that's not to mention the methane (one of the most potent greenhouse gases) produced by the cow.
