Thanks to the work being done by the awesome volunteers at the Pottstown Recycling Center, some of our Swarthmore styrofoam is being converted into artificial wood products used in housing and other applications.
If you haven't been able to go completely styrofoam-free but can't stomach the idea of throwing the stuff in the trash (to be burned in the Chester incinerator and pumped into the air), let me know. There's a local group of us who take turns driving to Pottstown (when we have a full van load).
The Pottstown Center also recycles batteries, light bulbs, printer cartridges, waxed paper cartons, corks, old candles, Goodwill-reject clothing, and many, many other items. $8 per carload. It's quite an experience!
